Spring Break 2009 Day 2

Day 2 started early with another tour of Mammoth Cave. We went on the Frozen Niagara Tour. We got to ride a bus to get to the tour entrance which the kids loved. Why do we pay money to take our kids on fancy vacations when they enjoy things like eating at a rest area and riding on a bus??? Anyway, the tour took us to a part of the cave that is totally different than any other part of Mammoth Cave. Most of Mammoth Cave is very dry and just has a ton of rocks everywhere. The part of the cave we went in today was wet and had tons of stalactites and stalagmites all over the place. It was really amazing. I took way too many pictures inside the cave but I just could not help myself. The pictures below just don't do it justice. After Mammoth Cave we spent some time at Dinosaur World. It was a little cheesy but the kids thought it was pretty cool. They got to "dig" for bones and "search" for fossils. Afterwards, we headed for home where Dewey the Cat met us with a big, happy, meow-NOT. I have to head back to work but I am sure this is not the end of our Spring Break 2009 adventures.

Spring Break 2009-Day 1 Mammoth Cave

Ok, it has been entirely too long since I have posted. Lets just pretend that 3 month lapse never happened, ok?
We were originally going to go to Disney World this year but we decided that it would more fiscally responsible to save some money and stay local this year. Don't tell the kids though cause they don't know that we decided agains Disney. I got a lot of advice from people that suggested that we wait till the kids are a little bit older anyway. Disney will be there-we will make it one day. We decided to go to Mammoth Cave and do some hiking in the caves. The kids earned their Junior Park Ranger Badges and then we were ready to head down. We started on day one with the Historic Tour. It was a 2 hour, 2 mile tour with about 400 stairs to navigate. I was pretty nervous that TPG would freak out when they turned out all the lights and I was not sure how DCG would do for the long trek. They were total troopers and did really well. TPG thought the cave was "totally amazing" and DCG thought it was pretty funny that she never had to bend over to get through some of the more narrow sections of the cave. After dinner we went back to the hotel and swam in the pool. Tomorrow we will go on the Frozen Niagra tour and then head to Dinosaur World. Here are some photos of the day.
